Denmark
For ferry travellers, Denmark is mainly the northern gateway to Norway. The port of Hirtshals, at the top of the Jutland peninsula, runs the short crossing to Kristiansand as well as longer routes onward to western Norway, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. Flat, easy roads lead up to the terminal, which makes it a simple place to start a Nordic trip. From Hirtshals the southern Norwegian coast is only a few hours away.
